Carvoeiro
This former fishing village, half way between Albufeira and Portimão in the centre of the Algarve has matured into a popular tourist resort. It has a traditional village square that leads directly to the town beach, with other pretty beaches in coves either side of the town.
The town itself spreads up the steep hills away from the sea-level central square, giving beautiful ocean views for many hotels and villas. Within easy reach of the main part of town there are a number of developments which have proved propular for full-time residents and holiday visitors alike.
There is a good choice of supermarkets and shops offering local crafts, with an international range of bars and restaurants. To the east of Carvoeiro is the 9-hole Vale do Milho golf course - great for sharpening up the short game - and to the west the Pestana Golf Resort, which boasts two 18-hole courses, Gramacho and Vale da Pinta, and a David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
